Talk of the Town
August 21, 2017
"North Georgia viewing of the eclipse was perfect!" said everyone except me. I had an appointment in Peachtree City.
Because so many in our area purchased glasses that were recalled, I heeded the optometrists' warnings and opted out. At the last hour, a couple of articles enticed me to go old school and make a shoe box viewer.
Lessons learned:
1) Glasses are infinitely better for viewing an eclipse than shoeboxes. Liz Claiborne shoeboxes are made for Liz Claiborne heels.
2) There are still kind, sharing people in the world. Other patients at the ENT office let those of us without glasses take a peek.
3) A small sliver of sun goes a long way. The eclipse in Peachtree City was at 97%. The sky barely darkened, and the sun still cast strong shadows. I'm not certain I would have noticed there was an eclipse had it not been the talk of the town for weeks.
4) Experiencing the eclipse is more than sight. Standing on an asphalt parking lot, the sudden drop in temperature grabbed our attention. "Aha, something's going on!"
5) Ignorance is not always bliss. The more I know about the eclipse, the more magical it becomes. Share the magic.
